Telescopes
Antique Brass Telescopes
With actual antique brass telescopes auctioning for more money than most people can afford, replica brass hand telescopes or attractive brass telescopes on adjustable wood floor stands are popular alternatives.
A Simpler Time offers functioning antique replica telescopes in a variety of styles from our smallest 14-inch four section hand telescope (available in both highly polished brass and antique bronze finishes) all the way up to our leather and brass 50-inch tall wood floor telescopes.
Our most popular brass hand scopes are our smallest, least expensive 14-inch models. Not only are they fully functional brass telescopes that fold into a compact six inches, but they come complete with handsome, walnut-finished hardwood and brass display boxes.
Nostalgic hand telescopes make great gifts and sales awards, especially with our professional, inexpensive engraving. Imagine sending your top salespeople a brass telescope engraved with your company logo and urging them to "keep your eye on the goal" or "our target is getting closer."
The Best Brass Telescopes and "Spy Glasses"
Often called "spy glasses" and featured in many pirate movies, brass hand telescopes personify a swashbuckling nautical life. But how do you operate one? In stores, we've found that most customers try to twist the barrel of the scope to focus the spy glass (often without extending the telescope to its full length).
All brass hand telescopes are operated by first extending the barrel to its full length, holding them to your eye (small end towards you!) and viewing a distant object. Then slowly shorten the length of the scope by pulling the furthest section towards you until the object is in sharp focus.
Our brass telescopes are all functional and range in power from 8x on a 14-inch brass hand telescope to 20x on our largest antique brass telescopes on stands.
